New outdoor youth activity designs
As a result of extensive youth consultations and surveys during the Summer of 2009, we have decided to develop the exterior space around the Phase 1 Youth Block to incorporate a range of activities.
This initiative is designed to extend the range of opportunities open to young people and introduce some more challenging outdoor activities for them to participate in.
The new activities include a skate park, cage football, climbing wall and a small basketball area. Outdoor seating and a decking area will also be incorporated.
Ramps have been introduced to improve access to young people with physical disabilities and a redesigned bridge and entrance from Birmingham Street car park added.

New base for the Black Country Food Bank.
On 8th September, 2009, the latest branch of the Black Country Food Bank opened in the existing Third Place premises.
Designed to provide 3 days emergency food to needy Halesowen families and individuals, referrals have already been trickling in from social services and other key referrers as the project 's awareness grows.
Now it has been announced that prior to the redevelopment of the site opposite Halesowen Sports Centre, existing buildings will be used as the regional warehouse for the Black Country Food Bank.
Project lead for The Third Place development, Leon Evans indicated this week his delight, on behalf of key stakeholders, that the recently purchased Titex building was already being used for community use.
The news comes on the back of the recent development of the former Job Centre building, also part of The 3rd Place footprint, being used as a gym and general purpose hall by a local secondary school.

Launched in the first of a series of sixteen local home gatherings on Tuesday 1st September, members were encouraged to pledge their commitment to The Third Place project. Occurring throughout September 2009, the informal meetings provide opportunity to become partners in different ways such as Giving Partners and Skill Sharing Partners.
On Sunday 6th September, a Leadership Summit took place when key developments were communicated and some of the expected challenges discussed.
The home gatherings and Leadership Summit are part of a range of initiatives taking place between July and December 2009 to encourage participation in this landmark community project by Zion Christian Centre members. |

One of only 40 youth projects to reach the final stage of My Place funding applications.
The Hub @ The 3rd Place Youth Project were delighted to hear in the last few days that they have been successful in getting through to the final stage of the 2009 My Place funding application process. Of 150 applications, The Hub was one of only 40 to get this far.
My Place is a government initiative (Department for Children, Schools and Families - DCSF) to build world class youth facilities in the most deprived areas of the country, driven by active participation by young people. The Hub @ Zion submitted its application in June 2009.
Grants of between £1m and £5m will be awarded to 10 or more successful projects from the 40 youth projects taking part in the final application round.
The Hub @ The 3rd Place team will be working hard during August and September to meet the requirements for a more in depth application, due for submission at the end of September 2009. The team anticipate finding out whether they have been successful in their bid sometime in December 2009.
